As a student at Purdue University and an employee of the ranch, Rosebud Ranch was the getaway from home and school. You have an unique attractive trail riding that you can’t get anywhere in northwestern Indiana. While not just enjoying the scenery, the atmosphere at Rosebud is an enjoyable fulfilling experience within itself. You should never have a dull time at Rosebud Ranch whether it’s with the exciting staff , meeting other new boarders, or using the beautiful indoor/outdoor facilities.

People - Meet the Rosebud Ranch Family
Art Joseph, Owner

ART JOSEPH, OWNER

Meet Art. If you stop by the ranch, you will undoubtedly catch him laughing with a customer, taking Pierre for a trail ride, checking on one of his horse borders or napping in his comfy recliner in the customer lodge.

As a successful electronics industry executive for over twenty-five years, Art retired early to pursue his dream of owning a horse ranch. A native Chicagoan, Art moved to Brookston and established Rosebud Ranch in 2004. Art created Rosebud Ranch as a place where horse owners could come and forget the worries and stresses of everyday life, and just spend precious time with their horse in a beautiful setting. Art believes in community, almost as much as he does horses.

He is an active member of the local Lion’s Club, volunteers his time and resources to local schools, community activities and festivals in Brookston and he is a committee member for the Purdue Calumet Dunes Equine Center Project. Art and his lovely wife Tina welcome you to Rosebud Ranch.

TINA JOSEPH, OWNER
Tina Joseph, Owner

Meet Tina, Art’s better half. Referring to her as the brain of the outfit, Tina is a graduate of the University of Miami and has pursued post graduate work at the University of Chicago, studying Art History at both. (Although we suspect she was just as busy studying “Art” without the history part, as they met in College)

With a prominent career at art galleries and auction houses, the call of the wild tugged at Tina’s heart strings, too. In fact, growing up in Pittsburgh, Tina used to work at neighboring farms, cleaning stalls and taking care of horses, anything to be able to earn free riding time. Possessing the heart of an artist, Tina finds the beauty in everyday life…especially at the ranch. When not checking on Art you can often find Tina tending to her beautiful garden, playing with the dogs, protecting the deer that roam freely on the ranch or feeding her birds.

As the mom of Felix (22) and Pip (18), Tina’s hands are as full as her heart. In fact, Pip observed that Art comes in a distant sixth behind her horse, dogs, cat, birds and deer. As the official hostess of Rosebud Ranch, Tina welcomes you and hopes you pop in to say hi.

WENDIE SCHEAR, MANAGER

Wendie Schear, Manager

Meet Wendie. With a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University’s School of Agriculture program in Animal Sciences and a history of working in livestock, Wendie was a natural fit in helping to run Rosebud Ranch.

For the past six years, Wendie has managed Rosebud Ranch with a combination of strict discipline and organization that assures everything runs smoothly. Yes, she does have that mushy love of animals’ side, too.

In addition to her passion for horses, especially her beautiful mount Kwazar, Wendie is active in several animal-oriented organizations. She holds a chair on the Advisory Board for the Purdue Calumet Equine Business Management Program. She is a member of the Indiana Equine Professionals Networking Group. Wendie works closely with Purdue University Faculty in assisting several equine programs. She is also active with Purdue’s Animal Science Department and Heifer International where she has helped to organize and lead a work/study group of students to Romania.

In her spare time, Wendie has a passion for horses and loves to trail ride. (We guess you could’ve figured that one out on your own.)
